London Bank Weekend

London - Weekend

Another weekend, another plane ride! We were off to the big bright shiny lights of London to see our good mates Fiona and Dan. We arrived on Friday night, in order to attend Weggy's birthday party which he didn't turn up to. It was at the Shunt, a club/art exhibition in the tunnels under the railways lines near London Bridge. It was a somewhat perculier location. First of all it was massive inside, with many different rooms. Some has arty sorts, like plaster casts of sex dolls, a "sock exchange" where you could play a game and if you lose (you always did) you had to give your socks up. Then there was a room full of 1950s typists madly typing away and screaming about a black letter. It was facinating as none of the actors broke character the whole time, even though we were running around them boozed up trying to work out what was actually going on.

Saturday we headed to Richmond for as much sausage as we could handle. It was a german restaurant which sold beer by the stein, and sausage by the metre. We couldn't quite man up for the metre board (a meter long board full of german treats such as sauage, potatoe and saurkraut), but had a half meter and a stein of beer. Then with our bellies about to burst we jumped into a row boat to set off down the Thames for a row. Very english indeed. Dan showed up he was from a private school with rowing on the sports agenda. I just broke a sweat rowing in circles.

We were met by my sister, Larissa, and Ben Tan, who all happened to be in London that weekend too. It was nice to have so many familar faces around.

After a coffee and cake (no tea and scones) we headed home to change then out to an english restuarant for pies and cider. It was a great meal, the cider was strong and again i ready to burst. Ollie joined us for the evening, a mate of Dans we meet on our Morzine ski trip, and we ended up at his place finishing off the night with a few cuban rums.

Sunday rolled around and we took a lazy day of shopping in the Covent Gardens areas. Unfortunately (or not for my bank balance) we ran out of time to satisfy the shopping cravings. London is a paradise for clothes shopping, but we vowed we'd come back to top up.

A great weekend away, nice to spend time with some good mates, and reminded me how quick it is to get from The Hague to London - we'll definately be doing that again.
